Against public outcry and expert warnings, Philadelphia is attempting to ram new voting machines down voters' throats that CANNOT BE VERIFIED. That means if these machines are used in the 2020 election, there will be no way to know if the election results are correct!
After our 2016 recount effort revealed that elections in Pennsylvania were impossible to verify, the recount lawsuit by Jill Stein and PA citizens forced the state to agree to ensure that all voters can cast a verifiable vote by 2020. But by purchasing the deeply flawed, expensive, unverifiable ES&S Expressvote XL voting machines, Philadelphia County officials are violating that agreement and breaking trust with the voters they claim to represent.
Our grassroots activists fought hard to make PA officials agree to a voting system we can trust - come out to help us defend the victory we worked so hard for!
There are many problems with the Expressvote XL:
1. They don't use paper ballots, but receipt-like "summary cards" that print out an abbreviated summary of your vote and that research shows are hard to verify.
2. What's worse, even if you do verify the written text, that isn't what counts as your vote - what counts is BARCODES printed on the summary cards.
3. EVEN WORSE, these machines can be programmed to change your ballot after you submit it - meaning there's NO reliable paper trail and NO WAY TO VERIFY THE ELECTION RESULTS!
Join us on Wednesday October 2nd at noon in front of the US Courthouse at 601 Market Street to send them a clear message: NO to unverifiable voting machines in Philly!
Jill Stein will be there to make a special announcement. She will also make a statement at the 11 am Board of Elections meeting at City Hall - please feel free to join us starting at the Board of Elections meeting: https://www.facebook.com/events/391050428235509/
Please join us at this important action in the fight for elections we can trust!
