Join us at the Church of the Overcomer on October 14 at 9:30 am as Delaware County and nearby residents and members of the Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration (CADBI) come together to hear about and discuss the ongoing fight against Pennsylvania's 'Death by Incarceration' (Life Without Parole) sentences—the harshest and most punitive sentences for violent crime in the entire country. Over 5300 people in Pennsylvania have this sentence, which means that they will remain in prison with no chance of release until they die.
We will be discussing how and why people have worked to change these sentences, what we can do as community members to work against them, and how to support one another in this work--whether we are incarcerated people, family members of people serving life, or members of the public concerned with smarter and more human justice.
--Panel discussion on working against Life Without Parole/Death By Incarceration sentencing featuring family members of people serving these sentences, recently released people, and words from incarcerated people themselves.
--Discussions about what sort of justice or responses to violence people would like to see instead of life sentences and other long, punitive sentences.
--Presentations of the current strategies for fighting life sentences—from statewide political action to smaller community-based organizing—by long time anti-incarceration activists, including information about how you can get involved and about CADBI's upcoming Rally for Redemption in Harrisburg on October 25.
Snacks will be provided.
Sponsored by Decarcerate PA, Fight for Lifers, Human Rights Coalition, Right to Redemption (Lifers INC), and CADBI.
