NORMALLY, OUR RIDE FALLS ON THE THIRD SUNDAY. HOWEVER, IN APRIL THIS IS EASTER. SO WE'VE MOVED THIS UP TO 4/14, PALM SUNDAY.

We the cyclists of Philadelphia are sick and tired of having bike lanes usurped as parking by entitled motorists every damn Sunday. Our safety is worth more than a motorist's convenience. So let's show them with a group ride to get the message out about the dangers this rude tradition poses.

NEW REGULAR SCHEDULE:
Sunday Services: Every Third Sunday
Saturday Services: Stay tuned

-WE GATHER at the Rocky Steps @ 10am
-WE RIDE @ 10:30am as a group through plagued blocks
-WE FLYER parked cars as a team with postcards
-WE REWARD OURSELVES after with Sunday coffee/beers

Our objective of this ride is to FLYER EVERY PARKED CAR sitting in the bike lane. We are CIVIL. We are a TEAM. We DO NOT damage vehicles. If a driver approaches while we are flyering, we explain the danger of bike lane obstruction face-to-face. Oh, and we have FUN doing it.

PRINTING CARDS IS EXPENSIVE!
DONATIONS ACCEPTED!

Ride Style:
- SLOW ROLL: We will ride as one unified group rolling at a slow pace set by the ride captains. This is a CRITICAL MASS demonstration, the ride is NOT about speed.
- WE RIDE AS SINGLE GROUP: On single lane streets, we will organize as a takeover of the full lane to ensure group safety and to establish presence of our collective movement.

Riders should anticipate that the group could reasonably encounter aggressive drivers. For the safety of all riders, it is critical that the rear of the ride remain strong to protect from cars trying to push forward into the mass. Please let the ride organizers know if you are interested in helping to play this role for the group.

The Law:
The cultural norm of Sunday parking in the bike lane is rooted in MYTHOLOGY. As legend has it, a so-called “handshake agreement” was made as an assurance that the PPA “will not enforce” parking violations on Sundays, as an exception for churchgoers who opposed the City’s core bike lane network being installed by the Nutter administration. There is no law permitting motorists to park in bike lanes for religious purposes.

The law about parked vehicles does differ by zone:
- In NO STOPPING zones, it is illegal for a motor vehicle to park or stop in the bike lane for any reason, for any length of time, 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week.
- In NO PARKING zones, it is illegal for a motor vehicle to park or stop in the bike lane for 20+ minutes, 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week.
