No one in cages, ever!

On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, will bring thousands of Americans to detention camps across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. We are partnering with national, regional and local communities and organizations who believe that fundamental human rights are not negotiable.

For Berks County, we are calling for Governor Wolf to issue an Emergency Removal Order to stop the detention of traumatized families at the Berks County Family Detention Center. Pennsylvania is one of two states in the nation that hosts a prison for immigrant families, known as the Berks County Detention Center, the other being Texas. Families have reported verbal abuse, workers' rights abuses, medical neglect and in its first year of operation a mother was raped repeatedly.

FYI: Parking is available at the buildings across the road and down the hill from the center behind the Berks Heim Nursing Home
