Join JACL Philadelphia for our annual Day of Remembrance, commemorating the anniversary of President FDR signing Executive Order 9066, which led to the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII.
Acknowledging the importance of speaking up on behalf of the civil liberties of all people, this event will create space to provide updates from JACL National regarding their current advocacy efforts and provide a more detailed recap of the Philadelphia chapter's recent work.
The event will also feature a presentation by JACL Philadelphia Chapter President Rob Buscher about the exhibit of anti-Asian racial propaganda our chapter co-hosted with Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in November 2018 titled American Peril: Imagining the Foreign Threat (which he curated).
The lecture will consist of a brief background of the collecting process, ethical concerns related to the resale market of such items, historical context to better illustrate why this project is so important in today's political climate, and information about the future of this exhibit. Several key artifacts will also be displayed on site.
Light refreshments will be served, and if you wish to donate food/drink please contact Teresa Maebori at firstname.lastname@example.org
