On May 13, 1985, the lives of 11 men, women, and children were taken. On May 13, 1985 a Philadelphia police officer was ordered to drop a bomb from a helicopter onto their home. There was an explosion. There was a raging fire. Eleven lives were taken. Sixty-one homes were destroyed. Nearly 250 people were made homeless. This terrifying tragedy is commonly referred to as The MOVE Bombing. It is an unfortunate, unnecessary, and unhealed wound in history; a faded and too-often forgotten and fatal phenomenon.
The world is now being called to remember the 11 who were lost. The world is now being called to Re-member MOVE.
On May 13, 2019 people around the world will Re-member MOVE through the observance we simply call "11."
On May 13, 2019 people all around the world will Re-member MOVE with 11 sacred sounds. At exactly 5:27 PM Eastern Standard Time, 11 sounds will echo around the world. This is the same time the bomb was dropped on the MOVE family on May 13, 1985. All around the world, churches will ring 11 bells. Motorists will honk horns 11 times. Students will clap hands. People will remember 11.
People will make one sound for each of the 11 lost lives.
There will be one sound each for the five children: Katricia, Zanetta, Delitia, Phil and Tomaso.
There will be one sound each for the six adults: Rhonda, Teresa, John (Vincent), Frank, Raymond and Conrad.
11 people were lost. 11 sounds will reverberate.
There are so many lessons we can learn when we Re-member MOVE. The bomb should not have been dropped. The fire should have never started. The 11 should not have been taken.
We will Re-member MOVE. We start by remembering the 11.
